On the table…
If you're not from the New Orleans area, you may be asking yourself, "What is a po-boy, anyway?" Depending on where you call home, it has a number of other names - submarine sandwich, hoagie, grinder.
...What is a po-boy anyway?
Legend has it that the term po-boy originated in a sandwich shop in New Orleans during the Great Depression. A sandwich shop located near the railroad station was a place the men out of work would wait. The gentlemen who owned the shop would see them and say, "Here come those poor boys" (which, with local dialect, became "po-boys.") He fed them sandwiches until the men were able to return to work and didn't charge them for his services. From that proud beginning, today's Oby's po-boys stand for the most incredible sandwiches ever made.
